PROGRAM DETAILS

The program was established as a joint project with the Town of Shallotte and the Shallotte Kenneth A. Gore American Legion Post 550 Auxiliary to recognize, honor, and pay tribute to our local military service personnel. Banners honoring our brave service men and women will be proudly displayed throughout the downtown of Shallotte on Main Street as a way for the community to express their gratitude for the veteran’s service to our country.

After the designated display period, banners will be presented to the honoree (or applicant), or reapplication may be requested for an additional year at a reduced rate.

Eligibility

The individual to be recognized must reside or have resided in the Town of Shallotte or within approximately 5 miles (e.g., Supply, Grissettown, etc.), attended Sunnyside school, Shallotte High School, or otherwise called Shallotte their hometown.
Individuals must have served in any of the following branches of the United States military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marines, Reserves, National Guard and Coast Guard) and must also meet one of the following conditions:
  • Currently be an active service member
  • Be an honorably discharged veteran or died in the line of duty
  • Any young man and woman who has signed up to join our military at a future date

IS THIS PROGRAM JUST FOR VETERANS?
No. These are Military Tribute Banners so that all individuals who have served,
are currently serving, and those committed to serve our nation in the future can be honored. Many families have proudly sponsored honorees who are currently serving in our armed forces. This is also a great way to show the community who from among them is on active-duty or soon to be.

SUPPORT DONATIONS

Please consider providing a donation of any amount you choose to offset the cost of the banner program. Your donation will be used to reduce the cost of honoring a Military veteran, active duty or enlistee in the Town of Shallotte.

SPONSORSHIP LEVELS

HOW MUCH DO THE BANNERS COST?

Sponsorship of a single banner is $185.

Often due to tight budgets and fixed incomes, there will be individuals brought to our attention who are worthy of being honored, but their family member can’t afford to do
so. To help defray their costs, we are seeking businesses, organizations, and individuals to help sponsor banners for individuals who fit this criteria. In recognition of your willingness to sponsor one or more banners for those worthy of honor, your business name can be placed on the banner if you so chose. Please note however, business logos are not placed on on banners so as to not make them look commercialized. The business name will be added in the same type face and size as all other sponsors to keep consistency among all banners.

Gold Star Banners

Gold Star Banners

In order to pay tribute to the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, Military Tribute Banners is committed to contributing all program banners commemorating those who lost their lives during recent conflicts (from 1957 to the present which includes the Vietnam War era) while serving on active duty FREE of charge. This includes those who fell in combat, during training, or in non-military incidents.

Also, banners for those who succumbed to the inner battles (self-inflicted) associated with the most current wars (1990  to present) will be produced at no cost as well.

We understand that the families of these brave individuals have endured a level of hardship that we may not fully comprehend unless we have personally experienced the loss of a loved one in similar fashion. We aim to reassure these families that there exists a dedicated community committed to preserving the memory of those who recently lost their lives due to the inner battles caused by these wars that plague many of our heroes long after the physical battle ends. New Enlistee Banners

Additionally, banners that honor any young men and women who have signed up to join our military at a future date will be provided by Military Tribute Banners for FREE. This offer, for the first time in 2024, is being provided because they believe the new enlistees deserve recognition, as less than 1% of all Americans have ever taken that step. There may be circumstances that prohibit that individual from completing their commitment, but it was a commitment to serve none-the-less.

Application

If you would like additional information regarding the Military Tribute banner project, or if you are interested in having your Military Hero displayed on a banner, please contact the American Legion Post 550 Auxiliary using the form below.

Please keep checking back, updated program information will be posted on this page as it becomes available.

Applications will open the beginning July 2024.  Due to the limited numbers of banners which can be displayed at one time, banners will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Initial display period of banners is dependent on time needed to gather honoree information and sponsorship and coordination with the Town of Shallotte.

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first– served basis by the Post 550 Auxiliary Military Banner Program selection committee. Once the application is verified and funding for the banner has been received, the committee will notify the applicant of the approval.
Banners are intended to be installed annually to coincide with significant national holidays such as 4th of July, Memorial Day, September 11 and November 11 recognition events as the Town of Shallotte street banner rotation schedule permits. The applicant will be mailed a notification letter via email of when the banner will be installed honoring the military service person or veteran.
