To pay your annual membership dues by PayPal, credit, or debit card, please login to the appropriate
National websites for MyLegion.org or MyAuxiliary member portal.

If you chose to mail a check for your dues payment please include your name and current contact information, and membership ID number.
You can find your membership ID number online by signing into the appropriate MyLegion.org or MyAuxiliary member portal and viewing your profile online.
You may also update your contact information, e.g., mailing address, email address, and phone number on the member portals.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN THE AMERICAN LEGION AND/OR AUXILIARY
 

Legion Eligibility

If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving – you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!

*Because eligibility dates remain open, all active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.

**U.S. Merchant Marine eligible only from December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (WWII).

Auxiliary Eligibility

Membership in The American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to the:

(1) grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion; and

(2) grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who served in either of the following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918 and any time after December 7, 1941 who, being a citizen of the United States at the time of their entry therein served on active duty in the Armed Forces of any of the governments associated with the United States during either eligibility periods and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge;

(3) grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during either of the following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918; and any time after December 7, 1941 who served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States during either eligibility periods and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge; and

(4) to those women who of their own right are eligible for membership in The American Legion.*

* A woman who is eligible for American Legion membership is eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary regardless of whether or not she is a member of The American Legion. However, eligibility of her female relatives (sister, mother, direct descendants) and/or spouse depends upon her membership in The American Legion.

IMPORTANT: EVERYONE MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF DD 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) of veteran through whom eligibility is derived.

NEW MEMBERSHIP (Legion and/or Auxiliary)

Eligible veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to the Post Membership Committee:

1. Completed American Legion and/or Auxiliary Membership application as appropriate.

After completion, scan or photocopy a copy for your records and mail the other copy to the above address together with your dues payment. 

2. A copy of your or your relative’s DD214 (Report of Separation) as appropriate.

3. Membership Dues Payment

Make checks payable to ‘American Legion NC Post 550’ or ‘American Legion Auxiliary NC Unit 550 ‘ as appropriate at the address listed above. DO NOT SEND CASH.

4. If the information is correct, payment is received, and eligibility verified (DD214 provided) membership will processed at the next Executive Meeting each month and then a membership card will be mailed to you.

TRANSFERS

Veterans applying for transfers from your current Post to our Post must submit the following:

                                 a. Completed Member Data Form
                                 b. COPY OF DD214 OR DISCHARGE

6. Membership dues payment, if current year National dues are not paid. If current National dues are paid, please provide payment for dues for the next year’s membership.
